Haiku-style review of Cloverfield, courtesy of ghetto NetFlix:

Shaky cam
Characters un-sympathetic
One roots for Clover?

I can try and guess what they were trying to do – a monster flick for the iPhone generation. Over the top Nokia product placement. The film makers probably thought that the shaky camera work was wonderful, and it works on a TV or monitor, but it’s no wonder that people in cinemas felt a bit nauseous.

The in-jokes were a little weak (going to Japan?). The CGI tracking shots were fantastic (motion matching). Probably the best thing on the DVD is the extra on how they did the effects.
